1325 National Action Plans on Women, Peace and Security: Lessons from the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden

On September 13th, a roundtable on the lessons learned from National Action Plans on Women, Peace and Security by the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden was held at the residence of the Swedish Ambassador H.E. Per Sjögren.

Experts from the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden spoke of elements of their respective countries’ National Action Plans. From the Netherlands, Anne Kwakkenbos, of WO=MEN the Dutch Genderplatform, highlighted the unusual structure of the Dutch plan, which includes civil society collaboration. From Norway, Sine Holen, of the Norwegian Defence University College, focused on relevant elements for the military. And Elisabet Hedin, from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), located the Swedish NAP within their feminist foreign policy. The experts also spoke at a public meeting at Carleton University on the 14th.

This event was co-sponsored by the Embassies of the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway along with the Women, Peace and Security Network – Canada (WPSN-C) and support from the Nobel Women’s Initiative. A report summarizing the roundtable will be released soon.
