Toronto Branch

About the Toronto Branch

World federalism is simply about ensuring good governance that deals with issues at the most appropriate level. Local decisions should be taken at local level, national decisions at national level, and global decisions at global level.

World federalists exist all over the world. In Toronto, we meet and organize to advocate for improved global governance structures. We form a branch of the national movement, The World Federalist Movement — Canada. The Toronto Region Branch organizes Seminars with knowledgeable speakers to educate ourselves and the public on current world federalism topics. With each speaker we ask what Actions the Branch and individuals could take in response.

Our Board of Directors plans events and activities for members on a regular basis, with the sole goal of working towards a better world for everyone. Our working groups are collaborative and inclusive. We would like to add to our membership, so if you are interested in joining our team please contact us today. The Earth Constitution and World Parliament Today

It has been widely recognized for many years that the current United Nations has shortcomings. Beginning in 1958 the World Constitution and Parliament Association (WCPA) gathered a series of global conferences to draft the “Constitution for the Federation of The Earth”. It was first published in 1974. In 1977 a call for ratification by the nations and peoples of Earth was issued, and the Earth Constitution was presented to the UN General Assembly. We recommend you look at the document before the seminar since Dr. Martin will only provide highlights of the Earth Constitution.

The Earth Constitution defines a “Provisional World Parliament” which has met 15 times since 1982, writing 52 “World Legislative Acts". Dr. Martin will discuss what is happening today with this movement and how it relates to other movements aimed at improving global governance.
