Canada's Federal Election: Engaging with candidates

As the October 21st federal election draws near, WFMC and other organizations have developed toolkits, blog series, and other materials to provide you with the background material — and possible questions — to engage with candidates.

WFMC has developed a group of questions covering peacekeeping, climate change, disarmament, and strengthening the United Nations.

The questions have also been sent to the major federal parties and we will post responses as they are received.

The Women, Peace and Security Network – Canada has an ongoing blog series, #WPSDAdvice: Our advice to the incoming government on women, peace and security issues, that will cover a range of topics over the next month. The first two posts are already available.

Up for Debate, the alliance of organizations calling on all federal party leaders to commit to a national televised debate to share their priorities on women’s rights and gender equality, has a toolkit for engagement that provides specific questions to ask candidates, as well as general advice on engaging in the electoral process.

The Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC) has also sent questions to the political parties on on global aid, international cooperation and foreign policy issues, as well as providing other relevant materials.

And KAIROS Canada has compiled background information on ecological justice, gender justice, Indigenous rights, and migrant justice, as well as questions for candidates.
