The Women, Peace and Security Network – Canada (WPSN-C), which WFMC has been a member of since it was established six years ago, took an exciting step forward this year and is now incorporated. The Network held its first annual general meeting at the beginning of May.
The Network’s new formalized structure will allow it to endorse and support positions as an organization, as well as pursue funding opportunities to support its work.
In other news, a third meeting of the Women, Peace and Security Advisory Group was held at the end of April. The advisory group was established as part of the second National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security and includes government and civil society representatives. The April meeting included presentations on the situations in Colombia and Yemen and discussions of funding for women’s organizations and the appointment of a WPS Ambassador. The new ambassador position was first announced last fall and a specific announcement as to who the ambassador will be is expected next month.
