TakeAction: 17 July, International Justice Day

The Day of International Criminal Justice marks the anniversary of the adoption on 17 July 1998 of the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court, which seeks to deter people from genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

17 July unites all those who wish to support justice, promote victims’ rights, and help prevent crimes that threaten the peace and security of the world.

Background on the ICC

International Criminal Court: The ICC has a new, much improved website, including a online resource library.

There is also an ICC outreach blog that features stories from ICC staff in the field.

The Coalition for the International Criminal Court also provides information and oversight about the ongoing activities of the Court. They also have a blog, #globalJUSTICE, for news and updates.

For information about the crime of aggression, see the Global Campaign for the Ratification and Implementation of the Kampala Amendments on the Crime of Aggression.

Mark the Day of International Criminal Justice by sharing a photo of the scales of justice in front of landmarks and locations anywhere in the world to “add justice” to your world view.

Photos can be shared on the Facebook page for 17 July (that is run by the International Criminal Court).
