Call to Action on Nuclear Weapons

A meeting in May of members of the Canadian Network to Abolish Nuclear Weapons resulted in a widely circulated “Call to Action” that outlined measures that the new Government of Canada should take. Concern is growing over the nuclear modernization programs of Nuclear Weapons States, at a time when risks of nuclear weapons proliferation and accidental use of these weapons are also on the rise. A growing number of states (but not, yet, Canada) are supporting measures that would build on international humanitarian law to develop a framework for the phased elimination of nuclear weapons. The Call to Action led to a subsequent Ottawa Citizen op-ed from five former Canadian Ambassadors for Disarmament.
