What can the history of democratic progress teach us about the challenges we face today?
Join the World Federalist Movement β Canada for a virtual screening and discussion of Global Democracy and Justice, a thought-provoking short film that explores how popular movements in the 19th century helped expand democracy, equality, and justice at the national level. The film also examines how political and economic changes since the 1980s have contributed to growing inequality and weakened democratic participation.
Following the screening, participants will take part in a facilitated discussion exploring an important question: can a renewed movement for democracy at the global level help address today's most pressing challenges while restoring greater equality and accountability?
As issues such as climate change, conflict, economic instability, and technological disruption increasingly transcend national borders, many are asking whether our democratic institutions have kept pace with an interconnected world. This event offers an opportunity to reflect on the lessons of history and engage in a constructive conversation about the future of global governance.
