We are delighted to announce that Judge Kimberly Prost is the recipient of the 2026 WFM Canada World Peace Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to international justice. Throughout her distinguished career, Judge Prost has dedicated herself to advancing accountability for war crimes, terrorism, and organized crime. She currently serves in the Trial Division of the International Criminal Court, where her work continues to strengthen the international rule of law.

Long before joining the International Criminal Court in 2017, Judge Prost played an important role in Canada's efforts to combat international crime. During her time at the Department of Justice, she worked in both the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Unit and the International Assistance Group. As Director of the International Assistance Group, she participated in negotiating more than 40 bilateral extradition and mutual legal assistance treaties. She also served on Canadian delegations that helped negotiate the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, and the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

In 2000, Judge Prost joined the Commonwealth Secretariat as Head of the Criminal Law Section and Deputy Director of the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Division. There, she led programs that promoted international cooperation on counter terrorism, implementation of the Rome Statute, and efforts to combat organized crime and corruption.

Her career with the United Nations began in 2005, when she managed the Legal Advisory Section of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. A year later, she was elected by the United Nations General Assembly to serve as an ad litem judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. In 2010, she became Ombudsperson to the United Nations Security Council Al Qaida Sanctions Committee, where she helped introduce stronger principles of fairness, transparency, and the rule of law into the committee's sanctions procedures. Following the completion of her five year term, she joined the International Criminal Court as Chef de Cabinet to the President before being elected as a judge in 2017.

Judge Prost has also contributed to a number of initiatives that strengthen international justice beyond the courtroom. She serves on the Advisory Council of the Crimes Against Humanity Initiative, a project of the Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute that advocates for a comprehensive international convention on the prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity. She is also a member of the Independent Review Panel of the Wildlife Justice Commission.

Judge Prost's lifelong commitment to justice, accountability, and the rule of law reflects the values at the heart of WFM Canada's mission. We are honoured to recognize her extraordinary leadership and look forward to celebrating her achievements at this year's World Peace Award presentation.
